The municipality of Nice, its CCAS, and HopHopFood are launching a partnership to reduce food waste and support people in need. This initiative allows beneficiaries to collect products donated by merchants and individuals through an app.
During the city council meeting, the city of Nice and its Communal Social Action Center (CCAS) formalized a partnership with the association HopHopFood. This initiative aims to reduce food waste while assisting people in precarious situations.
According to the latest Ipsos/Spf barometer, more than a third of French people sometimes skip a meal due to financial constraints. At the same time, nearly 9.4 million tons of food are thrown away each year in France. In response, the City of Nice and HopHopFood are implementing a simple and accessible system.
Merchants and individuals wishing to donate food products can add them to the HopHopFood app. Beneficiaries, identified by partner associations and the CCAS, access the donations via a personal code. They can then collect the products from participating supportive merchants.
A local mobilization for more mutual aid
The CCAS of Nice will play a key role in identifying eligible individuals. The city will establish a network of associations committed to fighting precariousness and will encourage merchants to join the initiative. A “Solidarity Shops HopHopFood” sticker will be placed on the storefronts of participants to make their commitment visible.
By enhancing the communication around this initiative, the stakeholders hope to increase the number of donors and beneficiaries. This partnership is part of a circular economy and local solidarity approach, aiming to better utilize available resources to serve the most vulnerable.
