There’s finally movement on the side of the Aiglons. Yesterday afternoon at a press conference, the new recruits of the Gym were accompanied by Florent Ghisolfi and Jean-Pierre Rivière, respectively Sporting Director and President of the club, to share their future ambitions.
He is the club’s first summer recruit and is attempting a nice gamble. Having played at Montpellier (2013-2017) and Olympique de Marseille (2017-2021), Morgan Sanson eventually landed in England at Aston Villa. Despite undeniable talent, the midfielder failed to make an impact in the Premier League. He was ultimately loaned to Strasbourg last season and now finds himself on the same path at Nice. On the brink of turning 29, Morgan Sanson clearly displays his ambitions:
« My personal goal is to bring OGC Nice back to Europe, as in recent years, to be as efficient as possible and quickly ensure continuity so that everyone is proud and I return the trust that was given to me.»
Jérémie Boga at all costs
OGC Nice breaks the bank by bringing in Jérémie Boga for nearly 20 million euros! In the club’s plans for a few seasons now, the Ivorian international finally arrives. Having played at Chelsea (England), Sassuolo (Italy), and more recently Atalanta Bergamo, who finished second in Serie A last season, Jérémie Boga is enthusiastic and engaged with the Nice project. He notably has a history with Francesco Farioli, the Italian coach of the Aiglons whom he knows well: « What convinced me was the project, the coach’s speech, and Florent (Ghisolfi). I think everything is in place here for me to enjoy myself.»
With only two recruits recorded this summer, the management is taking its time but working thoughtfully as explained by Florent Ghisolfi: « We hope to bring in two or three more players, without rushing, like with Morgan and Jérémie. We need to be patient and don’t want to act just for the sake of acting. Every player who joins us must bring added value to the team.»
The INEOS doubt
Owned since August 2019 by the English company specialized in the chemical sector, the club is causing concern among observers. Indeed, INEOS is officially a candidate to acquire Manchester United. With eyes fixed on the prestigious Premier League club, the Gym finds itself downgraded to the background. Given the pronounced concerns of the club’s fans, Jean-Pierre Rivière wanted to clarify the situation:
« It’s a joy to have them, they are always present. There was, for a few months, an extremely ambitious project, but that project is no longer relevant. We know there is the possibility for INEOS to acquire an English club. That said, I think we are moving forward with a project that suits me very well. The club remains ambitious, and we have everything we need to work well.»
After Lausanne and Montpellier, OGC Nice continues its preparation camp and will face Braga this Saturday at 8 p.m. A transfer update is also available in our columns from Sunday, as every week!
