The PCF 06 announced that its departmental secretary, Julien Picot, will lead the Nice communists in the March 2026 elections.

On Wednesday, April 23, during the general assembly of the communists of Nice, Julien Picot was designated as the leader for the upcoming municipal elections. He will represent the French Communist Party in the election scheduled for March 2026.

This designation is part of a dynamic initiated since the beginning of the year. In January, the communists of Nice initiated a drive for unification with other leftist forces and environmentalists. This collective effort will continue from May. All progressive organizations wishing to contribute will be invited to participate in the development of the program.

Following his election, Julien Picot outlined his priorities: “In Nice, it is high time to act for affordable housing, for free public transport, for culture and sport for everyone, for safety and prevention. We want to return the city to the people of Nice.”

A Recently Engaged Journey

Julien Picot is 41 years old. He is a financial manager. He does not come from an activist family. His father was a worker, his mother a caregiver. Both were “rather left-wing,” but never engaged in a party.

It was in 2018 that Julien Picot decided to join the Communist Party. He climbed the ranks quickly. In 2023, he was elected head of the Alpes-Maritimes federation during the departmental conference organized in Contes.

His designation as leader marks a new phase for the Nice communists. The stated goal is to build a local political alternative with other leftist forces. The launching of broad project work in May should define the contours of this alliance.
