Launch of the National Diabetes Prevention Week: Get Tested in Nice!

Latest News

On the occasion of this week of prevention and information, the city of Nice is offering free screenings at various centers from June 2 to June 9, 2023.

Diabetes is a disease affecting more than 500 million people worldwide and killing nearly two million annually. In France, it is a major health issue, with an estimated 6% of the population being diabetic. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that typically develops in childhood or adolescence. It accounts for about 10% of diabetes cases in France. Type 2 diabetes is more common and generally occurs in adults, though it can also affect children and adolescents. The aim of this prevention week is both to raise awareness and to promote diabetes screening.

In response to a steady increase in the rate of people with diabetes or at risk (5% per year over the past 10 years among those over sixty), Nice wishes to take direct action with its population. Since March 2023, residents of Nice can have their blood sugar levels measured at the municipal vaccination center. This service is offered at three locations:

  • Nice Center: at the vaccination center located at 10 Rue Hancy from Monday to Thursday, 9 am to 4:30 pm, and Friday from 9 am to 3 pm.
  • Nice West: at the Moulins health center located at 26 Avenue Martin Luther King, two Wednesdays per month from 2:30 pm to 4 pm.
  • Nice East: at the Village social center in Ariane located at Jardin Lécuyer-Avenue Emile Ripert, two Wednesdays per month from 1:30 pm to 3 pm.

“Eat, move” to fight diabetes

The 12th edition of this prevention week focuses on the theme “diabetes and physical activity”. Within this framework, it will emphasize the importance of sporting activities and good nutrition in preventing type 2 diabetes and stabilizing a diagnosed diabetes (type 1 or 2).

Join us on Friday, June 2, from 9 am to 5 pm with the Association of Diabetics of the Alpes-Maritimes and East Var, supported by the city of Nice, around stands and sporting activities on the Promenade du Paillon, esplanade de La Bourgada!
