This Wednesday, the Eagles hosted the Wolf Burners for a fourth matchup. The game ended with a score of (1-2) in favor of Grenoble.
Just 24 hours after their last match, the team from Nice aimed to take their revenge against the league leaders. However, things didn’t go as planned.
Hope Revives
The Grenoble team applied pressure right from the start. It took them five minutes to score the first point in this match. With a beautiful pass from Charles Schmitt, Matias Bachelet concluded with a powerful stick shot that deceived the Nice goalkeeper Raphaël Garnier (0-1). The actions continued, but Nice struggled, even when Grenoble made defensive mistakes. The azure players missed the target repeatedly. The end of the first period was tense, with many fouls committed by the Grenoble players.
Coming back from the locker rooms, our players were more determined than ever. They pushed forward and camped in front of the Grenoble goalkeeper Stepanek‘s goal area. It was a closer match than the previous night, with great opportunities on both sides. Seven minutes after the resumption, Slovenian player Luka Kalan found the net, weaving through the Wolf Burners’ defense (1-1). The two teams were engaged in a real tug of war. Both tried to score and take the lead on the scoreboard. The Eagles showed impressive impact, but by the end of this second period, the score remained unchanged.
A Decisive Final Third
For this end of the match, Kalan seemed very motivated. No sooner had he entered the field than the Slovenian executed a series of dribbles, fooling the opposing defense. His shot hit the bar, much to the disappointment at the Jean Bouin ice rink. The Grenoble players, stressed and much less confident than in the previous game, provoked the Nice team by committing numerous fouls. A strategy that paid off, as six minutes before the end, the Swede Alexis Binner scored the decisive point of this match. Assisted by Loic Farnier, he unleashed a powerful shot that almost tore through the Nice nets. A sad end to the match for the Eagles of Nice, who lacked realism. The game ended with a score of (1-2) for the Wolf Burners.
This fourth defeat marks the end of the season for the Eagles of Nice, eliminated at the same stage as last year.
