In an English university town, a group of students are indulging in drinking. There is the deputy in charge of police security to keep an eye on things and take home the young ones who have had a bit too much, either to their own homes or to their parents’. Then there’s a deacon accused of pedophilia.
Initially, the police investigation concludes it was a suicide. A young girl has been raped, the police chief covers up the case. There are interests at stake. Who is this deputy who seems very interested in the female students? Then the deacon has supposedly committed suicide, or so they say.
Everyone believes it until they discover the color of a stole that does not match the Lenten period. Thus, two police officers will take over the botched investigation. Who is protecting whom? And why?
The commissioner, struggling with her alcohol problems, wants to close the case, except that a female sergeant continues her investigations with the help of a shrewd inspector. Together, they will uncover a terrible secret and prove that the deacon did not commit suicide and was not a pedophile.
We find ourselves in a bleak universe where politics and high-profile connections are eager to protect the security deputy despite knowing the truth about him. A detective novel where each page is full of twists and turns, with the conclusion only revealed in the last line.
