Christian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice, announced the appointment of Lucas Magliulo as the municipal councilor delegated to Esports. This announcement was made during the Play Azur Festival, which runs until this evening at the Palais des Expositions.

Lucas Magliulo, already sub-delegate for Commerce and Sport, takes on this new responsibility with enthusiasm. A video game enthusiast since childhood, he closely follows the evolution of Esports and its major international competitions.

“Like many young people of my generation, I grew up with a controller in hand. From hours spent on Mario Kart to FIFA nights with friends, video games have always been part of my daily life. Although I never reached a competitive level, I passionately follow the evolution of this discipline and the major competitions that now punctuate the global esports calendar,” he explains.

A Commitment to Esports in Nice

This appointment is part of the municipality’s strategy to strengthen its position in the Esports sector. Nice has already hosted large-scale events such as the LFL Days with Webedia. The city will also host the first European EVO competition in 2025.

Lucas Magliulo sees Esports as a discipline that shares common values with traditional sports. “The values of surpassing oneself, team spirit, and fair play are at the heart of both practices. Just like traditional sports, Esports has this unique power to bring people together around a common passion,” he adds.

Having joined the city council in September 2024 at the age of 27, Lucas Magliulo aims to strengthen the institutional recognition of Esports in Nice. He hopes to make the city a national reference in this rapidly growing field.
