-A discussion around the film: “The Sky of Suely”
On Friday, January 14 at 8:30 PM, for the Cinémas Sans Frontières debate session, the chosen film is “The Sky of Suely,” a beautiful Brazilian film by Karim Ainouz featuring the actress Hermila Guedes, who won the Best Actress award for this role at the Brazilian Film Festival in Paris in 2007.
“The Sky of Suely” was also presented in the official selection at the Venice Film Festival the same year. This film is a premiere in Nice.
Four new films are scheduled this week. First, the very beautiful Romanian film, “Tuesday, After Christmas” by Radu Muntean, which was featured at the last Cannes Film Festival in the Official Selection at “Un Certain Regard.”
-On the documentary side, “Toscan” arrives as a tribute to the great producer Daniel Toscan du Plantier, delivered by director Isabelle Partiot-Pieri. The film was presented at the Cannes Film Festival in the official selection “Cannes Classics.”
-For children, two new films also premiering in Nice, “Funny Warehouse,” a sort of melancholic Toy Story, and “My Dear Little Planet,” which consists of 9 short stories about ecology viewed in a poetic and funny manner.
Five films in continuity, children are not forgotten with “The Apprentice Santa Claus,” for children aged 3 and up.
-However, you can still watch “The Human Resources Manager” by Eran Riklis, which swept the Israeli Oscars: Best Film, Best Director, and Best Screenplay. The first film by actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, “Jack Goes Boating” is also showing, as well as “Full Treatment,” the latest film by Pierre Salvadori starring Audrey Tautou, Nathalie Baye, and Sami Bouajila.
Our favorite of the week, “Inside Job,” is finally at the Mercury. Charles Ferguson’s excellent documentary reveals all the mechanisms of the latest financial crisis with simplicity, sharpness, and a startling truth…
