On Wednesday, a new train that will connect Milan to Nice was presented. It will be implemented by TRENITALIA France, in collaboration with the city of Nice.
“Transport is strategic,” says Agostino Pesce, General Manager of the Italian Chamber of Commerce. Today at noon, TRENITALIA, the CCIF, and the city of Nice gathered at the DoubleTree by Hilton to present the new train that will run from Milan to Nice. Amid smiles and friendly exchanges, the representatives of the involved groups did not fail to express their pride in leading such a project. For now, this remains only a test phase, which is expected to take place between August 3 and 31. The goal is to assess feedback from this initial rollout on the rails.
A Different Kind of Transport
“La dolce vita,” in the train, as described by the company. Onboard restaurant, relaxation area, bar, everything is designed to enjoy this journey of just over 6 hours.
One special feature is that travelers cannot board the train outside of the stations of Milan and Nice. They can only disembark to visit one of the destinations included in the route. The aim is for tourists to enjoy the journey, as it’s much more than just a matter of mobility.
A Much Larger Ambition
“Our main objective remains high-speed trains.” Marco Caposciutti, director of the Italian rail company, does not hide his ambitions for innovation during his speech. Although the train is currently only for tourists, the goal is to move towards high-speed transport, similar to the SCNF. He also wishes for the experimental phase to last longer than planned, ideally extending into the first weeks of September.
