The Minister of Transport met with elected officials from the Hautes-Alpes to discuss mobility in preparation for the 2030 Winter Olympics. He announced the renewal of rolling stock for night trains, with priority given to the Paris-Briançon line.

Philippe Tabarot welcomed Jean-Michel Arnaud, senator of Hautes-Alpes, Jean-Marie Bernard, president of the departmental council, as well as Marcel Cannat and Arnaud Murgia, vice-presidents of the departmental council, to the ministry. Together, they discussed the transport needs of the region.

Among the topics discussed, the Paris-Briançon night train line was prominently featured. Nearly 155,000 travelers used it in 2024, an increase of more than 6% in one year. The Minister announced the initiation of the renewal process for the rolling stock of the ‘Trains d’Equilibre du Territoire’ (TET) night trains, which began on February 18. The Paris-Briançon line will be prioritized.

The 2030 Olympics in Sight

This initiative aims to improve the quality of service and the comfort of users. It must also adapt to the needs of wheelchair users. Philippe Tabarot reiterated his commitment: “I am delighted with this co-construction work being carried out with the elected officials of the Hautes-Alpes and the president of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region. Our common ambition is to offer a mobility solution that can both improve the quality of life for the Haut-Alpins and best prepare the region for the major event that the 2030 Winter Olympics will be.”

The Minister specified that the deputies of the Hautes-Alpes, Marie-José Allemand and Valérie Rossi, will soon be received to continue discussions on this project. The elected officials and the government thus express their desire to strengthen the accessibility and performance of transport in the region.
