Fabien Bénard and the MoDem, “Peacekeepers” of Democracy in the Roya on Sunday, September 4
The Prefect signed the decree on Wednesday setting the terms for Carros’s exit from the Coteaux d’Azur, thus leading to the disbanding of the Coteaux d’Azur Community of Communes.
He reiterates: “The development of the SDCI is a prerogative that belongs to me, the communes are invited to give a simple opinion, and consequently, they cannot prescribe the holding of a referendum within this framework.” (excerpt from the press release on 08/26 by Prefect Drevet)
It remains to be seen and understood who makes up the CDCI, Departmental Commission for Inter-Municipal Cooperation? And when will the Prefect release his new version, his new SDCI, Departmental Scheme for Inter-Municipal Cooperation, since 40 communes have voted against and 11 have yet to express their opinion?
We learned last night about the rejection of the interim relief filed by associations at the Administrative Court against the Tendaso municipal order. Even though it is customary not to comment on court decisions, I am among those who will read the reasonings of the decision in detail, even if I could not imagine that an infringement on the fundamental freedoms of expression and assembly would be validated.
I deplore a gagged local democracy!
“Do not force the inter-municipal cooperation,” said Prime Minister François Fillon in the spring, “… If some prefects have not understood it, tell me, I will tell them…”
Could there be speeches on one side, and actions, another way of proceeding, on the other?
How can one remain silent on the violence that this forceful imposition represents, with the constant mention of the threat of public order disruption? While there is no such threat. Isn’t the only violence this denial of democracy?
I reaffirm today that we support the “popular consultation” planned for tomorrow, September 4, in Roya at the initiative of the associations, as its organization has been prohibited to the communes.
I denounce the fact that some see the Roya Valley as if it were a timid young girl (poorly endowed) falling into the arms of the CARF, as if that were the only outcome. It’s not necessarily inevitable. Nor is it inevitable for the CARF to later join the greater Nice agglomeration… becoming a metropolis!
Because we firmly believe that the voice of the residents and the exercise of their citizenship are very important in our democracy.
I will therefore go to Breil-sur-Roya on Sunday morning, at 10 am, then to Fontan, Saorge, and La Brigue, accompanied by Philippe Briand, Vice-President of MoDem 06, Laurence Forestier, and André Robilliart, officials of the 4th constituency of the Alpes-Maritimes.
With my pen, my camera, and my bulletproof vest, I will be a “peacekeeper” of democracy in the Roya, on Sunday, September 4.
