Mozart’s Requiem at the Basilica of Notre-Dame de l’Assomption

The series of sacred music concerts, initiated by György G. Rath, the new director of the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra, continues with the majestic and famous Requiem in D minor (KV626) by Mozart.

Composed in 1791, this work is only about two-thirds from the hand of the composer, as his death interrupted the writing. Constanze, his widow, in order to honor her husband’s memory but also to avoid having to repay the advance granted at the time of the commission, asked Joseph Eybler and then Franz Xaver Süssmayr to complete the score.

The Requiem has inspired many legends, both due to the unusual circumstances of its commission and composition and the difficulty in distinguishing exactly what is from Mozart’s hand and what is not.

György G. Rath himself will conduct the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra while the Choir of the Nice Opera will be led by its director, Giulio Magnanini. Within the choir, the soprano will be Corinne Parenti, the alto Sue-Jung Im, the tenor Dovlet Nurgeldiev, and the bass singer Stéphane Marianetti.
