Municipal Elections 2020: Christian Estrosi Announces His Candidacy

Latest News

Christian Estrosi chose the right time to declare himself a candidate for succession: he did it a few days after the New Year’s wishes of his (former?) rival Eric Ciotti, who paid him a formal tribute by declaring, “I wish the best for Nice and its Mayor.”

Having cashed in this blank check that paves a royal path by defusing the opposition of the hard-core “ciottist” electorate, straddling the radical right and extreme, who don’t like him much or at all, it was time to officially announce a candidacy that was already in practice but lacked the imprimatur to be such: “I considered that, having respected my commitments, it was time to propose to the people of Nice that we continue together. The mandate of mayor is one that requires longevity.”

Addressing the good people, he added a declaration where prose and poetry blend: “You are truly the essence of what has guided my actions for Nice. So, I propose we continue together. I will be a candidate in the municipal elections on the upcoming March 15th and 22nd. The essential, it’s you.”

The people of Nice will receive a letter from him starting tomorrow, in which, one can imagine, the main points of his program will be found.

Some elements have already been shared: “This third term will be focused on the environment and well-being. Security will also be at the core of the project, alongside a significant cultural component. And, as the main theme, we will focus on the addition of small and medium projects in the city’s neighborhoods.”

A public meeting is scheduled for next Sunday at the Acropolis.
