The PCF defends its approach for the union of the left and calls for overcoming divisions after a meeting marked by incidents.

The launch of the project for the municipal elections in Nice last Saturday highlighted persistent disagreements among left-wing forces. In response to the tensions, the PCF wanted to clarify its position. The party stressed the importance of calm dialogue to build a common candidacy.

The goal: to develop a strategy capable of uniting progressive forces against the right and offering a real alternative to the people of Nice.

However, the event was marked by an incident. The citizen collective ViVA!, which was not invited, showed up and tried to force entry. This action caused tensions, leading La France Insoumise (LFI) to leave the meeting in support of ViVA!

In a statement, the PCF responded to these events by calling for calm.We call for calm, mutual respect, and listening. Initially, the left-wing and ecological parties will hold weekly work sessions to lay the foundation for a transformation project for our city. Subsequently, all progressive citizen forces, including Viva, of course, but also all those that rightfully would not understand any preference, will be associated with this reflection.“

Building a Solid Union

For the PCF, the goal is clear: avoid the divisions that marked the 2020 municipal elections. As a reminder, the left had presented itself in a scattered manner with three separate lists.

“It is the responsibility of left-wing and ecological organizations to create a true alternative to Estrosi and Ciotti, to win these elections, and thereby transform the daily lives of the people of Nice,” the PCF specifies. The identified priorities include housing, purchasing power, security, transport, and the environment. Despite the tensions, the PCF remains convinced that unity is possible.

The ViVA! collective, for its part, is organizing a day of reflection on Saturday, January 18. This event aims to lay the foundation for a citizen project. The path toward a single candidacy is still long. Meanwhile, the PCF calls on all progressive forces to overcome their differences. In the end, the wish of each is to meet the expectations of the people of Nice.
