“My Blood for Others”: Saturday, June 13th and Sunday, June 14th, blood drive at Masséna Square in Nice.

Blood donation is a gesture that only 4% of the population endeavors to make. Yet, to treat the 500,000 patients awaiting transfusions, 45,000 bags of blood need to be collected each week in France. Among the most sought-after blood types are O+, O-, A+, and A-.

The Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region is among those most affected by blood shortages. Only about ten bags are collected each day at the Nice blood donation center. This number is insufficient to meet the needs. In the Alpes-Maritimes, 150 bags should be collected each day; “we are far from self-sufficiency,” worries the organizer of the “Mon sang pour les autres” event.

That’s why this year, “Mon sang pour les autres” is taking over the Massena space as part of the World Blood Donation Days. This initiative has already allowed the collection of 20,000 blood vials over about fifteen years of existence. It is the first event of such importance organized in the region for blood collection. For this event, entertainment and concerts by volunteer bands will animate the weekend of action.

So, if you are between 18 and 70 years old, have given blood before the age of 65, and are in good health, head over to the Masséna space on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 and give your blood for others.
