-As is customary, the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra will celebrate New Year’s Day with its audience; an event now eagerly anticipated by the people of Nice! The same concert will be held again the next day at 4 p.m. in the Salle des fêtes of Tourettes-Levens. The program will include, in addition to the traditional waltzes of Johann Strauss, excerpts from the works of Jacques Offenbach and Bedrich Smetana, under the direction of Roberto Benzi, the renowned conductor.
-Free admission as long as seats are available. It is strongly advised that the public collect their tickets at the Nice Côte d’Azur Opera box office before December 31, 2010.
-Roberto Benzi was born to Italian parents on December 12, 1937, in Marseille (France) where his father taught music theory. In a fifty-year career, he has conducted the world’s most famous orchestras: Orchestre de Paris, National Orchestra and Philharmonic Orchestra of Radio France, Ensemble Orchestral de Paris, the London Philharmonic, the Royal Philharmonic, English Chamber Orchestra, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra…
Roberto Benzi has been named a Knight of the Legion of Honor, the National Order of Merit, the Academic Palms, and in the Dutch Royal Order of the “Nederlandse Leeuw”.
