L1: OGC Nice falls to the leader!

Latest News

On Wednesday evening, the Gym faced PSG in a postponed match of the 32nd round of the Ligue. After a hard-fought game, the Aiglons lost this encounter (1-2).

A gala match for the last of the season at the Allianz Riviera. On Wednesday evening, OGC Nice hosted the league leaders, PSG. Initially scheduled a little over two weeks ago, the match was rescheduled following the Parisians’ European campaign. After their victory against Le Havre last weekend, the Aiglons wanted to keep the momentum. A win against PSG would allow the Niçois to still hope for a qualification for the next Champions League.

In terms of lineup, Francesco Farioli retained almost the entire squad that beat Le Havre last Friday. Only Jordan Lotomba returned to the right side of the defense. Antoine Mendy started this match on the bench.

Gym punished for its mistakes

The first major opportunity came for Nice. Khephren Thuram recovered a good ball in the Parisian area, but his shot hit the post of Arnau Temas. After this scare, the Parisians monopolized possession. The leader then punished its opponent. From a clearance, Jordan Lotomba lost a dangerous ball near his goal. Bradley Barcola took advantage and won his duel against Bulka (0-1). The same Barcola continued to trouble the Swiss full-back.

After a dribble past his opponent, the Frenchman crossed it back. Alone at the far post, the young Parisian Youram Zague doubled the lead (0-2). Stunned, the Aiglons managed to come back. After a superb run by Jérémie Boga, Mohamed Ali Cho sent a splendid strike into the top corner of the Parisian goalkeeper (1-2). With this first goal in Ligue 1 from their winger, wearing the red and black colors, Gym found its way back into the game. But Arnau Temas prevailed in his duels against Jérémie Boga, and later against Terem Moffi.

Regrets for the Aiglons

In this second half, the Niçois created chances without managing to trouble the PSG goalkeeper. Like this shot from Laborde, far too weak to surprise Arnau Temas.

Fifteen minutes before the end of the match, the exclusion of Melvin Bard didn’t help matters. As the last defender, the full-back tripped Barcola, who was set off alone on a counter-attack. Despite final assaults by Nice, the score did not change. After this defeat, OGC Nice is assured of finishing in fifth place. The Aiglons will therefore compete in the Europa League next season.

Last match of the season, this Sunday, May 19th, for the Niçois. OGC Nice will travel to Lille for the 34th day of Ligue 1. Kick-off at 9 PM. Already assured of finishing 5th, the Aiglons have nothing left to play for, except to end the season on a high note.
