This Sunday evening, OGC Nice hosted OL, as part of the 25th day of Ligue 1. Under difficult weather conditions, the Gym was defeated at the Allianz Riviera (0-2).

A big clash in the race for Europe! The Niçois hosted a direct rival, OL, this Sunday evening at the Allianz Riviera. The team led by Franck Haise had the opportunity to make a significant move. In the event of a red and black victory, Les Gones would be pushed ten points behind the Gym in the standings. The Eaglets were aiming for a fifth consecutive win. To recap, the Niçois had just won on the pitch of Saint-Étienne last Sunday.

Regarding the lineup, there were no surprises on the match sheet for OGC Nice. Long-awaited, the return of Morgan Sanson was not on the cards for today. Still unfit, the midfielder was not included in the Azur group selected for this match. Apart from that, Franck Haise retained his usual eleven at the start of this game.

A first half dominated by the Eaglets

In pouring rain, the Gym was present in this first half. The Eaglets quickly occupied the opponent’s half of the field. With a high block, the teammates of Melvin Bard stifled their evening opponent.

But the Gym lacked realism in these few opportunities. Mohamed-Ali Cho couldn’t reach the cross from Evann Guessand to open the score. Nor could Gaëtan Laborde a few minutes later, who hit the post guarded by the Gones’ goalkeeper, Perri. OGC Nice couldn’t ignite the match.

The Gym punished

The second half resembled the first forty-five minutes. OGC Nice dominated but didn’t score. Due to excessive waste in the final meters or a very solid Lucas Perri. The OL goalkeeper was there again to block a point-blank shot from Dante. And failing to score, the Gym would come to regret it.

After an avoidable loss of possession by Moïse Bombito, Rayan Cherki punished the Eaglets (0-1, 78’). Inefficient, the Niçois were penalized on one of the rare opponent opportunities of the evening. Worse, Ernest Nuamah doubled the score shortly after (0-2, 83’). The perfect steal! OGC Nice loses this match and misses the chance to catch up with OM, second, in the standings. Instead, the Gym sees OL get back into the race for the podium.

The next match is next Friday, March 14, for the Eaglets. The Gym will host AJ Auxerre as part of the 26th day of Ligue 1. Kickoff will be at 8:45 PM at the Allianz Riviera.
