This Sunday, OGC Nice traveled to the Reims field, as part of the 28th day of Ligue 1. After the disappointment against Nantes last week, the Aiglons settled for a draw (0-0).
After the defeat against Nantes, with a somewhat discouraging performance, OGC Nice had to respond on the Reims side this Sunday. With seven days remaining in the league, this match was expected to be crucial in the race for Europe. The Aiglons had a tough challenge ahead, facing the current 9th place team in the league. The Reims team was still in contention for European qualification.
For this match, Francesco Farioli could rely on the returns of Pablo Rosario and Khephren Thuram in the midfield. Melvin Bard, recovered from his physical issue, regained his place on the left of the red and black defense.
A Gym with Better Intentions
After five minutes of play, Terem Moffi had the first big chance of the match. After a nice pass from Boga, the Nigerian’s shot did not hit the target. The breakthrough by Mohamed Ali Cho met the same fate. After escaping several defenders, the Nice forward did not frame his shot. The Niçois experienced a tense moment. Found in depth, Munetsi bypassed Marcin Bulka. But the Reims midfielder couldn’t score from a tight angle.
The danger was getting closer to Yehvann Diouf’s goal, the Reims goalkeeper. Much better in terms of desire and altitude, the Aiglons faced errors in the final move. After a nice collective movement, Jéremie Boga missed the unmissable. Slightly off-center, the Ivorian did not hit the target, even though the goal was open. An incredible opportunity for OGC Nice! An action that illustrated well the difficulties faced by the Gym in attack.
A Little Animated Second Half
The second half began with a slower pace. Both teams canceled each other out without creating significant opportunities. Marcin Bulka was alert to a cross shot from Diakité. The offensive situations for Nice were rare and not very dangerous. Like this header from Thuram, easily caught by Diouf. Reims finished the match better but still couldn’t break through Marcin Bulka‘s alertness. The score remained unchanged (0-0). The Niçois reclaimed the 5th place in the standings.
Next match, in two weeks, on Friday, April 19, for OGC Nice. The Aiglons will face Lorient, as part of the 30th day of Ligue 1. Kick-off at 9 p.m.
