On Wednesday, December 18th, the Nice City Council approved its budget for 2025. In a context characterized by national uncertainty and international crises, the city has chosen to maintain stable financial management and ambitious investments.

This morning, the Mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, emphasized the importance of this budget in supporting families amidst current challenges. “My duty in the face of national political instability is to do everything to protect Nice and its inhabitants and to support families’ purchasing power during more difficult times,” he explained. No tax increases are planned for 2025.

The budget amounts to 124.2 million euros in investments. It revolves around three major areas: security, health, and greening of the city. Among the key measures, 92.9 million euros will be allocated to prevention and security. The Municipal Police will be strengthened, and modernized surveillance tools will be added. The city also plans 78 million euros for environmental projects. This includes creating a large landscaped park in the Var plain and greening several urban areas.

A budget with no tax increase?

Health and social cohesion receive an allocation of 78.6 million euros. These funds will notably allow for the creation of new daycare centers and the improvement of public facilities’ accessibility. In terms of education, 118.1 million euros are dedicated to schools and the cultural development of young people.

Christian Estrosi highlighted the strength of municipal finances: “We maintain our ambitious investment policy and a high level of public service quality while safeguarding our debt reduction capacity.”

The local tax rate remains one of the lowest in France, at 35.30% for property taxes. The debt stabilization at 548 million euros is intended, according to the municipality, to allow a controlled debt reduction capacity of 8.1 million per year. This budget marks a new step in Nice’s ambition to combine development with quality of life without losing sight of the objective of preserving public finances. The task ahead is daunting!
