The regular season of the Marmara Spike League ended on Saturday night. We now know the matchups for the quarter-finals.
It had been three seasons since the Nice Eagles last reached the quarter-finals stage. That has now changed as Brice Donat‘s players, who recently arrived on the Côte d’Azur last summer, finished the regular season in 5th place. This is a more than honorable ranking given the results in recent years. With a positive record of 14 wins in 24 matches, the Eagles have shown themselves to be very solid both at home and away. This consistency has propelled them into the playoffs.
The playoff schedule was announced last night. Unsurprisingly, the Nice team will face Tours. This is a repeat of the last day of the championship which largely favored Tours. While the name of the Maralpins’ opponent was little in doubt before the last match, it remains no less formidable. Indeed, Nice has not beaten this team since 2016! This represents a series of 23 matches without success in this matchup.
They will therefore have to raise their level of play again to hope to qualify for the semi-finals. The first match is scheduled for Friday, April 4 in Tours. The second leg will also take place away on April 6. Fans will have to wait until Saturday, April 12, to see the Eagles back in their home venue for the third match.
As a reminder, the first team to achieve three wins will qualify for the next round.
