Christian Estrosi, alongside his collaborators, unveils a groundbreaking study to transform the urban environment of Nice.

August 29, 2024, the Nice city hall was the setting for the official presentation of the study “3-30-300 Greening“, an ambitious project led by Christian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice and President of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis. This plan, aimed at revolutionizing the urban space of Nice by introducing more greenery into the daily lives of the people of Nice, is part of a strategy for deep ecological transition.

A Greener City for Healthier Citizens

Christian Estrosi opened the session by emphasizing the crucial importance of this project for the future of the city. “We want to offer every resident of Nice the opportunity to live in a greener, healthier, and more pleasant environment. The 3-30-300 plan is our response to the climate crisis and the growing demand for nature in urban settings,” he declared.

The concept of “3-30-300 Greening” is simple but ambitious: every inhabitant of Nice should be able to see at least three trees from their home, have 30% tree coverage in neighborhoods, and live within 300 meters of a green space.

A Collective Commitment to Public Health

Present alongside Christian Estrosi, Paul Hofman, Director of the University Hospital Institute, highlighted the expected health benefits of this initiative. “Urban greening is not just a matter of aesthetics or comfort. It has direct implications for public health, notably by reducing the risks associated with air pollution and urban stress,” he affirmed. He also emphasized that one of the deadliest cancers, among non-smokers, remains lung cancer.

Emmanuel Protte, director of geographic information systems, also spoke to remind us of the urgency of such a transformation: “With the 2025 Ocean Summit on the horizon, Nice must position itself as a model city in urban ecology. We are determined to make our city a model of resilience in the face of environmental challenges.

A Metropolis in Full Transformation

Christian Estrosi concluded the presentation by discussing the concrete measures that will be implemented to achieve the set objectives: “We will intensify our tree planting efforts, develop new parks, and improve the maintenance of existing green spaces. This project is a unique opportunity to rethink our relationship with nature in the city.
