Nice-Cannes Marathon: David Kipyego and Mercy Kipkemoi Triumph

Latest News

This Sunday marked the 16th edition of the Nice-Cannes marathon. An event that increasingly attracts big names in the discipline.

On this first weekend of November, the Nice-Cannes Marathon brought together nearly 18,000 runners, a record for this 16th edition. The route, which follows the coast from Nice to Cannes, passing through Saint-Laurent-du-Var, Cagnes-sur-Mer, Villeneuve-Loubet, Antibes, Juan-les-Pins, and Vallauris, concluded on the Croisette.

While we are far from records for this edition, the favorites distinguished themselves. The reason: the unusual heat for the season, which taxed many participants. Among the men, David Kipyego won with a time of 2h10’14’’. The Kenyan still lowered his personal best by more than two minutes with an average speed of 17.12 km/h. He was followed by his compatriot Elijah Kemboi (2h16’30’’) and the Menton-native Julien Gueydon. The former cyclist delivered an excellent performance by completing the 42.195 km in 2h27’52’’.

On the women’s side, Kenyan Mercy Kipkemoi dominated the race, finishing in 2h41’08’’. She placed eleventh overall with an average speed of 15.71 km/h. She was ahead of Bethan Male (Courir en Pays de Grasse), who finished in 2h53’19’’, and Charlotte Knowles (2h56’03’’).

More than 8,500 participants completed the event this year. The ranking is available here.
