Nice Carnival: The mini float “Garibaldi dei Oceans” sets sail

Latest News

Wednesday, February 5, at the Nice Nautical Base, Nissa Pantai and the Sea and Mountain Discovery Center (CDMM) inaugurated their mini carnival float for 2025: “Garibaldi dei Oceans”. For the 26th year, the Nice association presents a creation paying homage to Giuseppe Garibaldi.

This year, the Nissa Pantai carnival workshop has been set up at the CDMM at the Nice Nautical Base since January 15. The young participants created papier-mâché sculptures, including a sunfish and a ray that overlook Garibaldi navigating the waves. The head of the character was sculpted by the carnival artist Johan Garcia.

The mini float was designed with the active participation of the CDMM children. For several weeks, they have been shaping the decorations and marine elements that adorn it. This initiative raises young people’s awareness of ocean preservation while involving them in an established local tradition.

After its launch, “Garibaldi dei Oceans” will tour the neighborhood carnivals of Nice. Here are the main dates:

An initiative between tradition and awareness

This collaboration between Nissa Pantai and the CDMM is part of a dual approach: perpetuating the carnival heritage of Nice and raising young people’s awareness of the preservation of marine environments. “It was unthinkable for us not to participate in the carnival with a theme as strong as the oceans,” emphasizes Charlotte Baron, environmental animator at the CDMM.

This project offers children a unique experience: making a carnival float while discovering the importance of marine biodiversity. For Christophe, a member of Nissa Pantai, the engagement of young people is essential: “They are proud to see their creation parade and to share their passion with the public.”

The inauguration of “Garibaldi dei Oceans” promises a festive and instructive moment for both young and old and marks a key step in the Nice carnival tradition.
