The Nice Dance Film 2025 highlights the encounter between dance and cinema through a selection of European short films. Integrated into the European Short Film Festival of Nice, it welcomes international artists and offers a space for expression to movement creators.
Since 2018, the Nice Dance Film has been showcasing dance and cinema through a selection of European short films. Integrated into the European Short Film Festival of Nice, Un Festival c’est trop court!, this event is based on the collaboration between Laurent Trémeau, the festival’s artistic director, and Éric Oberdorff. Each year, an international dance film personality is invited as an honorary guest. Among the previously welcomed artists are Joëlle Bouvier, Luc Riolon, Tanin Torabi, Helena Jónsdóttir, and Bintou Dembélé. During the last edition, Laurynas Žakevičius was honored as part of the Lithuania in France Season.
An exacting selection open to European creators
The Nice Dance Film is open to short films that use dance and movement in their narrative or as a storytelling device. Music videos and documentaries are not eligible. The duration of the films must not exceed 25 minutes. All European productions and co-productions are eligible, provided they come from one of the countries mentioned by the festival. Non-French films must be subtitled in French or English.
Selected directors must provide a verified and subtitled DCP copy, as well as a ProRes (.mov) file one month before the opening of the festival. This edition is part of the 25th edition of the European Short Film Festival of Nice, which will take place from October 3 to 10, 2025. Organized by the audiovisual association Héliotrope, this festival highlights young cinematic creation and is a key event in Nice’s cultural season.
Through this program, the Nice Dance Film continues to explore the links between image and movement and offers a space for expression to filmmakers and choreographers from across Europe.
