Nice remains the major French metropolis with more than 300,000 inhabitants where life is good, according to the 2025 ranking of the association “Cities and Villages Where It’s Good to Live”, published on February 16 by the Journal du Dimanche. It is also ranked 6th among cities with over 100,000 inhabitants and keeps its 13th place in the national ranking.
The study is based on the analysis of 34,795 municipalities, evaluated according to 190 criteria grouped into several categories: quality of life, transport, health, and environment. Three new criteria were added this year: seismic risk, flood risk, and the frequency of natural disasters.
Nice thus surpasses several major French cities, including Montpellier, Nantes, Toulouse, Lyon, Paris, and Marseille.
An Engaged City
Nice was ranked as the “first green city of France” by the Kermap study, with 33% green coverage and 53 square meters of green spaces per inhabitant. Since 2008, the city has been implementing projects aimed at the environment, such as creating 70 additional hectares of green spaces and planting 280,000 trees by 2026.
Christian Estrosi, mayor of Nice, responded to these results: “Our choices have been relevant in Nice”. The city intends to continue its commitment to sustainable development and the well-being of its residents.
