During a press conference, the mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, provided a positive assessment of the summer season 2022. Let’s review some key points.
Increased Attendance
The summer tourist season is coming to an end. This summer of 2022, the city of Nice recorded a significant increase in attendance with an occupancy rate of nearly 87.8% in July-August. This makes Nice the number one tourist destination in France, and the fourth tourist destination in Europe!
The figures far exceed those of 2019 with 5 million visitors compared to 7 million this year.
This high occupancy rate can be explained by a predominantly international clientele, the increase and renewal of hotel offerings, the resumption of airport traffic, as well as the quality cultural and event offerings available to visitors.
Prospects for the off-season are also favorable, with an occupancy rate of 86.5% at the beginning of September.
A Predominantly Foreign Clientele
- The city recorded a strong American presence with an occupancy rate of 20%.
- A British presence that amounts to 15%.
- German at 8%.
- Italian at 7%.
- Scandinavian also at 7%.
- Moreover, note the presence of Swiss visitors, as well as the return of an Australian presence and still a Russian clientele.
Nice, a Cultural Destination
As we mentioned earlier, Nice also embodies a cultural destination due to the quality cultural and event offerings available to visitors.
Indeed, the city noted a record attendance in museums, with great enthusiasm for seasonal exhibitions: 190,000 visitors for certain exhibitions.
Nice, a Lifestyle Tourism
“Nice is not a mass tourist destination” declared the mayor, but embodies a lifestyle tourism, from art to culture.
This dynamism is reflected in the major international events the city hosts. Furthermore, the recent designation of Nice as a UNESCO World Heritage Site has also had positive consequences on tourism attractiveness.
Additionally, the Heritage Days held this weekend attracted 23,103 visitors compared to 19,000 last year.
