As the Gym is set to kick off its 2024-2025 season today against Auxerre, the club is experiencing a difficult transfer window. With a lack of movement and persistent injuries, here’s what you need to know.
The major blow at the start of the season is mainly the overcrowded infirmary of the Nice club. Absent for several months, Terem Moffi is suffering from a torn cruciate ligament. Additionally, midfielder Morgan Sanson injured his ankle during training this week. Two significant blows for the Gym, which will have to do without two key players in its team. Youssouf Ndayishimiye, Jérémie Boga, and Tom Louchet are also sidelined from the pitch.
Great arrivals, significant losses
OGC Nice saw two of its best players depart this summer, namely Kephren Thuram and Jean Clair Todibo. One went to Juventus in Turin, the other to West Ham on a loan with a mandatory purchase option; they are currently among the significant losses for the Nice club. However, the club has strengthened its ranks with the arrival of Jonathan Clauss and Tanguy Ndombélé. The two internationals might be able to showcase their skills this Sunday at 3 PM. It’s worth noting that defender Danté announced his departure from the club by 2026. The Brazilian international will retire at the age of 42.
Potential upcoming transfers
The situation for the Gym is therefore critical. Between injuries and the lack of a stable squad, the start of the season promises to be complicated. The next player expected to join OGC Nice shortly is Mohamed Abdelmomen. An agreement has been reached with Al-Ahly, his current team, for 4 million euros, plus a million in bonuses. The Egyptian player is expected to bolster Nice’s defense. Another possibility, which seems complicated given the competition from other Ligue 1 clubs, is the arrival of Sekou Mara, the forward from Southampton FC. RC Lens, Strasbourg, and Brest are said to be in the race.
