OGC Nice: Alexy Bosetti Accused by a Bastia Collective

Latest News

The “5th May victims collective” from Bastia, which fights to remember the Furiani tragedy, condemns an alleged behavior by Alexy Bosetti during the Bastia-Nice match last Saturday (0-1). According to this collective, the Nice forward supposedly mimed a collapse of the Corsican stands. The player denies this and is considering filing a complaint.

Alexy Bosetti, the forward from Gym, is accused by the “5th May victims collective” from Bastia of having displayed “disrespectful” behavior during the match between Gym and Bastia last Saturday. “He pointed to the banner facing the Nice bench with the mention ‘No match on May 5’ and then raised his two open hands toward the audience and mimed a fall, the association explains in a statement. The interpretation is easy to make, this so-called ‘professional’ player taunted by referencing the Furiani catastrophe on May 5, 1992 (5/5 with the fingers of both hands). This disrespectful behavior for the 18 people who died, the 2,300 injured during this tragedy, and their families is scandalous for us…”

Contacted by RMC Sport, Jean-Pierre Rivère, the Nice president, immediately reacted: “It seems unlikely to me. I am very surprised. What is certain is that if Alexy made a mistake, which I still have a hard time believing, we will never accept this kind of thing. I called Alexy on the phone. I pointed out the seriousness of this kind of thing to him. He assured me that he absolutely did not make this gesture with that intention. He denies it. If it continues, he is going to file a complaint. He told me: ‘I did taunt the Bastia supporters, for sure, but I never intended to go that far.’ He is shocked. He doesn’t understand what’s happening to him.”

Alexy Bosetti, 19, is a former member of the Brigade Sud Nice (BSN). “We know what’s going on between Alexy Bosetti and the Bastia supporters, we know there’s a very particular context,” acknowledges Jean-Pierre Rivère. In Furiani, insults went both ways. “He taunted the Bastia fans, as he was taunted himself. When you enter the corridor at Furiani, there’s a huge poster with a Nice player, in this case, Alexy Bosetti, being tackled from behind. With a caption in Corsican that I didn’t even remember…”

The higher authorities of the LFP should also take a closer look at this banner displayed in the corridors of Furiani and remove this unacceptable photo as soon as possible, far from the Fair Play advocated by all.
