The verdict has been reached, and the fans from the Côte d’Azur have elected the Aiglon of the 2021-2022 season.
It was a season full of twists and strong emotions that the fans of OGC Nice experienced this year. Even if it ended on a bitter note due to very sluggish team performances, several players from the Gym shone in this campaign. In particular, one player who played his first season in the club from the Côte d’Azur and won everyone over: Andy Delort
Arriving at the end of August from Montpellier, the Sète striker was not unanimously welcomed by Gym supporters. Some were concerned that his attitude and behavior would be detrimental to the group, while others felt the price paid (10 million) was too high given his age.
However, Delort adapted very quickly to Nice, delivering an assist in his first appearance and scoring a goal in his second match. With great determination and unshakeable mental strength, he quickly became an undisputed starter and the all-around man for the Côte d’Azur attack. Several times this season, he distinguished himself by scoring crucial goals that secured victories for the Gym (against Angers, Cholet, Paris, Lorient, Troyes, and Reims). Ultimately, the Algerian international had an extraordinary season.
Statistically, he scored 18 goals and provided 3 assists across all competitions, his best total in a top-division club. Therefore, it is only logical that he won the Crédit Agricole Aiglon of the Year award.
