OGC Nice – Brest: new league defeat for the Eagles

Latest News

After their European trip to Switzerland, the Gym was scheduled to face Stade Brestois in Finistère as part of the 31st matchday of Ligue 1.

After 6 matches without a victory, OGC Nice, caught between their two UEFA Europa Conference League quarter-final matches, arrived in Brittany with a refreshed and rejuvenated team. Unfortunately, the Gym lacked inspiration in this match, which ended in a defeat.

The only goal of the match was scored early on. It was the Brestoise forward Jeremy Le Douaron who managed to beat Kasper Schmeichel with a header from a Kenny Lala cross. Struggling from the first to the last minute, the Nice team displayed significant defensive weaknesses and many missed chances in front of the goal. After widening the gap, Eric Roy’s men (a former player and coach of the Gym) were able to maintain their advantage.

This marks the seventh consecutive league match without a victory for Nice, who have fallen back to ninth place in the standings. Focus now shifts to the Europa Conference League on Thursday for the return match at Allianz Riviera against Basel. Even though a completely different team will be fielded by Didier Digard, this second consecutive defeat in Ligue 1 is a cause for concern. In fact, it’s the first time since last September-October that OGC Nice have lost two league matches consecutively.
