The new defender for the Gym was introduced to the press this afternoon. It was an opportunity for him to discuss his ambitions and goals for the upcoming season.
OGC Nice’s new number 24 arrived at the Sports Museum with a smile, ready to present himself to the press. “I’m very happy to join the Gym, which I hope will allow me to experience new adventures on the European stage,” he declared upfront. “I hope to continue individual and collective progress with this club that is eager to grow.”
With Christophe Jallet, the Gym gains an experienced player who will greatly contribute to the young players. Considering the club has one of the youngest squads in Europe, a player like him can only be beneficial. Born in Cognac, he has already played 409 league matches since beginning his career at Niort, scoring 25 goals.
Moreover, Jallet is also an international player: he has already played fourteen matches with the French national team. He also scored a memorable goal with a formidable cross-shot against Belarus in September 2012.
The French defender was called up during the last gathering of the Blues in June. His personal goal is to participate in the next World Cup, and he doesn’t hide it: “Obviously, when you get the chance to play in a European Championship and get selected a year before the World Cup, it’s completely legitimate to want to be there. Especially since it’s the last chance for me. Maybe I’ll go, maybe I won’t. In any case, I want to give myself every opportunity to get there, to have no regrets, and even if I don’t go, to know that I did everything I could. I have arrived at the ideal place to give myself the best chance.”
In fact, he didn’t come to Nice empty-handed: Christophe Jallet donated a French national team jersey to the Sports Museum, and not just any jersey: the one he wore during the match against Armenia (a 4-0 victory on October 8, 2015). “It’s a way to mark the occasion, as a sign of my commitment to the city of Nice.” The jersey will join the wall dedicated to French national team jerseys, displayed alongside the shirts of Kopa, Platini, and Zidane.
