This Friday evening, the Gym faced FC Lorient, opening the 30th day of Ligue 1. After four matches without a win at the Allianz Riviera, the Aiglons returned to victory (3-0), following a good performance.
The Aiglons were back. Nearly two weeks after their last match, in Reims (0-0), the Gym faced FC Lorient this Friday evening. The team from Nice was favored against the Merlus, who were 16th and currently in the relegation play-off spot in Ligue 1. But OGC Nice had been on a run of four matches without a victory at the Allianz Riviera.
For this match, Francesco Farioli fielded a usual lineup. Morgan Sanson was chosen over Hicham Boudaoui, alongside Khephren Thuram and Pablo Rosario. The front trio of Boga – Moffi – Cho was once again selected.
A convincing first half
Right from the start, the Aiglons dominated play. Nice’s actions multiplied, exemplified by a shot from Jérémie Boga that went wide or a header from Thuram saved by Yvan Mvogo. It was finally Morgan Sanson who logically put Nice ahead after twenty minutes of play (1-0).
Smartly, the midfielder recovered a ball thirty meters from the Lorient goal. He continued his move before firing past the Swiss goalkeeper at his near post. The opening goal was well-deserved for the Gym. The second goal was not far off, but Mohamed Ali Cho lost his duel against the Merlus’ goalkeeper.
Improved offensive efficiency
Finally, the second goal came just after the break. Following a quick counter led by Mohamed Ali Cho, the ball returned to Jérémie Boga‘s feet (2-0). The Ivorian midfielder’s shot on target was deflected into the goal by a Lorient defender. The Gym calmly managed the game, against an inoffensive Merlus side.
Late in the match, Evan Guessand also got on the score sheet (3-0). In an unusual forward position, Jean-Clair Todibo crossed for his attacker, who was alone in the box. The Nice player finished the move perfectly. OGC Nice finally found their way back to victory at home, their first since the end of January. The Aiglons move provisionally to two points from fourth place.
The next match for OGC Nice is on Wednesday, April 24. Nice will travel to Marseille for a derby, as part of the postponed match of the 29th day of Ligue 1. Kick-off is at 9 PM.
