The Argentine goalkeeper who arrived in Nice in 2016 spoke to ESPN.
At 29 years old, Walter Benitez is one of the best goalkeepers in the French league. Since his arrival at Gym 5 years ago, he has continued to improve.
However, Argentina has never called him up, a disappointment for the Aiglon. In the interview with ESPN, he expressed his desire to play for a national team and left the door open for France!:
“I have been in France long enough to obtain citizenship, and since I haven’t played for the Argentine national team, I can still be called up by France. I’m not closing the door on anyone, but I am Argentine and I would like to play for my country’s national team. I played with the U20s, but I wasn’t at the Olympics at the time, although I wanted to be. It remains one of my goals, but to this day, it hasn’t happened. In France, they know that since Argentina hasn’t called me, I can easily play for them.”
