This Thursday marked the opening night of the 11th season of the Alphabet Theatre, located in Nice.
Adhering to health protocols, Sébastien Morena, director of the Alphabet Theatre, presented the program for the 2020/2021 season. It was a vibrant evening, with spectators getting a glimpse of excerpts from the plays that will be performed in the coming months. Magic, comedy, classical, puppetry, and even musical comedy were featured, providing a tantalizing preview! Some actors who will soon perform their pieces on the Alphabet Theatre stage were also present, such as Magali Gibelin, who introduced her show “The Secrets of a Hospital Clown” scheduled for the opening weekend, on Friday, September 18.
A varied program
A varied program was unveiled by the theatre, featuring comedies, solo performances, stand-up comedians, dramatic comedies, magic, as well as great classics.

- Comedy: “My Mother-in-law is a Witch” by Christian Morris, “Heaven is Hell” by Brigitte Rico, “Pierre-Albéric and his valet Armand” by Pauline Daumale, “Street of Small Virtue” based on R. Molinari.
- Solo performance: “The Secrets of a Hospital Clown” by Magali Gibelin, “The Monologues of Feydeau” by Georges Feydeau, “Cunégonde” by Loïc Langlais.
- Humor: “Maybe Crazy” by Guillaume Lenfant, “Thibaud Choplin Reignites the Fire” (humor and imitation) by Thibaud Choplin.
- Classic: “The Imaginary Invalid” by Molière
- Dramatic comedy: “Harold and Maude” by Colin Higgins
- Magic: “99% Magic, Mentalism, and Fun” by Zatanna
Themed evenings
This year the theatre is organizing four themed evenings.
- For the first evening, on October 31, Halloween night, the comedy “Good Shroud, Ladies and Gentlemen” by Marie Laroche-Fermis will be performed, followed by a bloody aperitif offered to the audience.
- The second themed evening is scheduled for December 24, Christmas Eve. Comedian Christophe Basclo will present his show, followed by a buffet. The evening is priced at 25 euros per ticket.
- The third evening will be on December 31. Two performances of the comedy “Heaven is Hell” by Brigitte Rico will be staged. A first performance at 6:15 p.m., followed by a champagne aperitif, priced at 27 euros per ticket. A second performance at 9:30 p.m., followed by an all-inclusive champagne buffet, priced at 36 euros per ticket.
- The final themed evening will take place on February 14. With the premiere of the comedy “They Loved Each Other,” followed by an aphrodisiac aperitif. Price of 19 euros per ticket.
A program for the little ones
The theatre has also set up a program for young audiences (aged two to ten). Musical theatre, puppetry, clowns, and theatre & dance will be featured. Most of the shows are interactive, designed to appeal to children. This year, “Princess Zucchini in the Land of Music” will kick off the Young Audience program.
The Alphabet Theatre will participate in the Night of Theatres, planned for the Thursday before Christmas, and in the Theatre Festival from October 5 to 8.
