PACA Region: First Case of Monkeypox Detected

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, each appearance of a new virulent virus is scrutinized worldwide. In recent weeks, it is monkeypox that is causing concern across the globe and more recently in France.

The monkeypox virus, also known as the “Monkeypox” virus, is the cause of an infectious disease transmitted to humans by animals. Its origin is primarily due to rodents (squirrels, Gambian rats) and is mainly located in Africa.

According to the WHO, more than 800 cases have been identified worldwide. A first case in France was detected on May 19, and today, it is the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region that has recorded a first detection in Marseille.

As of Friday, France reported 51 confirmed cases of monkeypox virus infection, according to health authorities. All cases in France are men, aged between 22 and 63 years.
