This morning, Place Masséna was transformed to pay tribute to the heroes of the Liberation of 1944. A parade of carefully restored military vehicles reminded the people of Nice of the courage of their elders.

On this August 28, 2024, Place Masséna rekindled a chapter of its history. At 11 a.m., the major artery of Nice was invaded by vehicles from World War II, reviving the memory of the arrival of Allied forces 80 years ago. The roars of jeeps and military trucks echoed throughout the city.

Under the amazed eyes of the public, a fleet of restored military vehicles proudly paraded. Among them were Willys jeeps, GMC trucks, and a few armored vehicles from the era, each carrying a story, the story of the day Nice was freed from German occupation.

Along the square, a crowd gathered around these mechanical witnesses of the past. Young and old alike admired these machines, expressing emotion and respect for that time. The vehicles will then leave Place Masséna to join the Monument aux Morts, concluding a day marked by remembrance and the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of Nice.
