Parc Méridia: A Model of Innovation for the Sustainable City

11

The Parc Méridia project has been approved and is moving into the implementation phase. After two years of negotiations and dozens of studies conducted, the work is expected to take a maximum of seven years.

Led by the Public Development Institution Nice Écovallée (EPA), Parc Méridia will be established in the west of Nice. This 64-hectare eco-district will be centered around a vast 20-hectare park, the Grand Parc Paysager of the Var plain.

An Extension of the City

Constructed on already urbanized land, it will accommodate approximately 5000 housing units. Moreover, productive economic activities, as well as local shops and services, will be developed. Social infrastructure such as schools and nurseries will be built. Additionally, socio-cultural, recreational, and sports centers will be established.

A New Way of Life?

The Parc Méridia demonstrator goes far beyond the traditional realization of an urban project. It embodies a new way of thinking about the city of tomorrow, in line with social and environmental challenges. This project is a concrete response to the challenges of the 21st century, with the ambition of reducing pollution by providing all essential services close to home.

The Objectives of the EPA Nice Écovallée

Since 2008, the EPA Nice Écovallée has aimed to transform the lower valley of the Var into an ecovalley. This institution seeks to reconcile economic development with ecology. It is developing 200 hectares out of a territory of 10,000 hectares. Its objective is to create an exemplary model in terms of the environment and economic development. With substantial support from the State, the Southern Region, the Alpes-Maritimes Department, the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis, and the city of Nice, the EPA continues to carry out ambitious projects. Seven large-scale projects are underway to meet the territory’s needs and the challenges of a sustainable city.
