Primarily, it is a venue for listening and exchanges for parents and their children. The Maison des Parents et des Enfants, established in March 2002, aims to effectively address various questions related to parenthood, to support and guide parents in their responsibilities through individual or collective actions. In this hub of listening and exchanges, parents or future parents are welcomed by a team of professionals.
To foster parent-child relationships through play, the Maison des Parents et des Enfants offers a toy library, a space for game activities and lending. This proximity facility encourages intergenerational and intercultural meetings, allowing children and their parents to gather around a fun or educational activity.
Today, there are over 1,100 toy libraries in France.
The role of the toy library is to place play at the center of its activities, to promote recreational activities, and to share the joy of playing. Play is a structural element, through which children make acquisitions, gain autonomy, develop their imagination, discover rules, and learn to respect them.
Playing facilitates the sharing of knowledge and skills among players.
Over 160 games and toys are available to the public.
The toy library’s collection (160 games and toys available for lending) is primarily aimed at children aged 0-4 years. It is a modest start, but will be enhanced by acquiring games for children aged 4-6 years and beyond since playing interests the entire family and should be a time of sharing for all.
Services offered by the toy library include:
– Paid lending (€20 per year per family),
– Free play on-site,
– Organized play on-site by a team,
– Participation in events and creation of animations around games and toys,
– Workshop for game manufacturing and creation,
– Documentation, information, and advice concerning games (selection, use, benefits),
– Testing of games and toys.
The Maison des Parents et des Enfants offers a program of conferences, debates, and discussion groups each quarter.
Themed information meetings with specialized speakers and parental meetings encourage reflection on issues concerning education and family.
