Playoffs Basketball Betclic Elite: Monaco doesn’t deliver at home

Latest News

On Wednesday, June 22, AS Monaco hosted ASVEL for the fourth game of the Betclic Elite Finals. Before this match, the Monaco team was leading 2 to 1 in the series and had the opportunity to win the title at home, in front of their fans.

Disappointment for the Roca Team, who, after a very challenging start (9-22 in the first quarter), lost to the Lyon-Villeurbanne team with a score of 68 to 85.

Despite a more contested second quarter (19-19) and a fourth quarter in favor of AS Monaco (29-22), the team from the Rock couldn’t find a way to overcome the Villeurbanne giants.

Indeed, AS Monaco struggled with three-point shooting accuracy (28.6%) and was out-rebounded (26 to 38) by the opposing team. Despite this, American point guard Mike James (34 points – 28 efficiency rating) tried to keep his team afloat throughout the game, but it still wasn’t enough to secure this decisive home victory. American forward Dwayne Bacon (10 points) also contributed to keeping hope alive for the Monaco supporters until the end.

On the Villeurbanne side, it was French forward William Howard (13 points – 7 rebounds – 19 efficiency rating) who ended as the MVP of the match. He was supported by American players Marcos Knight and Chris Jones, who each scored 19 points. Special mention also goes to French guard Elie Okobo (11 points – 5 assists), who once again delivered a strong performance in this Finals series.

AS Monaco is now tied with ASVEL in this Betclic Elite Finals series (2-2). The next and final game of the series will take place on June 25 at the Astroballe. The winner of this match will be crowned 2022 Betclic Elite French Champion.
