On Friday, October 4, 2024, during the Plenary Assembly of the Departmental Council of the Alpes-Maritimes, Charles Ange Ginésy delivered a powerful speech. Critical of the national political context and affirming his local commitment, the president of the department painted a grim picture of the political situation in France.

Charles Ange Ginésy did not mince his words when discussing the recent dissolution of the National Assembly and the anticipated legislative elections of 2024, which he described as a “political earthquake.” According to him, the massive vote in favor of the National Rally and La France Insoumise reflects a deep dissatisfaction among the French. Openly criticizing President Emmanuel Macron, he depicted a France trapped in uncertainty, with a government he likened to a “drunken boat” navigating without direction.

Charles Ange Ginésy took the opportunity to break the silence about his friend Éric Ciotti’s alliance with the National Rally. He defended his decision to keep the deputy and his allies in the LR majority under the banner “Departmental Majority” while asking him to step down from the presidency of the majority group. “The department will not be collateral damage of imported political conflicts meant to destabilize it, from wherever they may come […] I choose harmony and unity over division,” he argued, emphasizing that “Mr. Ciotti is not the National Rally.” The president of the department justified his silence by a need to maintain unity, despite the internal disagreements. Primarily with Joseph Ségura, who refuses “to make our department a political laboratory for the National Rally.”

## Local Challenge: Proximity and Pragmatism

In this tumultuous national context, Charles Ange Ginésy emphasized the necessity to remain focused on local priorities. According to him, the solution lies in “proximity.” An approach he has advocated since his commitment in 2017. The president of the department highlighted several tangible achievements, notably the modernization of infrastructure, sustainable development through ecological initiatives, and the strengthening of social actions, particularly for children and vulnerable people.

The core of the President of the department’s speech is an appeal for unity. He stressed the importance of overcoming partisan divisions to ensure stable and effective management of local affairs. Rejecting “political politicking,” he reminded listeners of the importance of working for the general interest of the residents of Alpes-Maritimes, far from national quarrels.

Thus, in facing political uncertainties, Charles Ange Ginésy demonstrates a clear commitment. That of preserving the stability of the Alpes-Maritimes while continuing to address the concrete needs of its citizens.
