Nice, the 2nd French destination after Paris

At the end of summer 2024, Nice Côte d’Azur establishes itself as the second French tourist destination, just behind Paris. The summer of 2024 was a key season for Nice, confirming its status as an essential destination for tourists from around the world. With modernized hotel infrastructures and a unique event offering, the city successfully capitalized on major events to attract visitors from all around. Among them, the arrival of the Tour de France, football matches of the Paris 2024 Olympics, and the famous Nice Jazz Festival made a lasting impression. These events not only invigorated the city but also generated exceptional economic benefits for the region.

Record attendance in July-August

The figures speak for themselves: between July 1 and August 22, hotel occupancy rates in Nice nearly reached 89%, with peaks hitting 98% during the Tour de France. This tourist influx was no accident. Indeed, Nice succeeded in appealing to an international clientele, particularly Aussies, Americans, and Turks, whose massive presence compensated for the absence of Russian tourists.

The Tour de France, an economic driver

The arrival of the Tour de France in Nice was truly a spotlight on the city. Not only did the event attract more than 266,000 visitors in a single weekend, but it also generated more than 60 million euros in economic benefits for the metropolis. The festivities gathered thousands of spectators, among whom 55% were foreigners. This influx had a direct impact on the local economy, cementing Nice’s position as a tourism leader.

A diversified offer for sustainable attractiveness

Beyond the summer season, Nice is part of a long-term tourism strategy. The diversification of the offer, spread over the four seasons, allows for consistent attendance throughout the year. The objective is clear: make Nice a sustainable destination, inclusive, and respectful of its natural resources.

A promising future

Summer 2024 is just the beginning for Nice. The city is preparing to host new major international events in the coming years, thus strengthening its tourist appeal. Among the must-see events are the United Nations Ocean Conference in 2025, and the 2030 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. Nice also positions itself as a major player in organizing sporting, cultural, and environmental events, contributing to its international influence.
