– A strong commitment from the General Council of Alpes-Maritimes and its partners to improve the vaccination coverage of young girls

This agreement, signed between the General Council of Alpes-Maritimes and the Departmental Council of the Order of Doctors, the Regional Council of the Order of Pharmacists, the Union Chamber of Pharmacists of Alpes-Maritimes, the Primary Health Insurance Fund of Alpes-Maritimes, the Provence Azur Agricultural Social Mutual Fund, the Social Security Scheme for Self-employed Workers, and the “Harmonie Mutualité” Mutual Insurance, aims to define the organizational procedures of the vaccination campaign against papillomaviruses and to clarify the role of each party.

The objectives are notably to achieve a 30% vaccination rate and to facilitate access to the vaccine for 14-year-old girls who do not have additional health insurance.

Let us recall that cervical cancer ranks eighth in frequency among female cancers and fifteenth in terms of death. The main cause of this cancer is the chronic presence of human papillomaviruses (HPV), which are factors in the development of pre-neoplastic and neoplastic lesions of the cervix. In the context of prevention, there are two vaccines on the market against certain papillomaviruses. Vaccination of 14-year-old girls is recommended by the High Authority of Health.

Since 2010, the General Council has committed to covering the cost of vaccines not covered by health insurance organizations. 6,000 14-year-old girls are concerned in Alpes-Maritimes.
