The Stade Niçois once again suffered a heavy defeat (45-14) on the field of Soyaux-Angoulême. The Niçois are still at the bottom of Pro D2

For this 25th round of Pro D2, Stade Niçois traveled to the field of the third in this championship, Soyaux-Angoulême. The first leg was rather tight with a victory for the Soyaux players with a score of (24-39) on Niçois soil. This evening the situation was very different. As often this season, it was the opponents of Stade Niçois who started the match better by scoring two quick converted tries.

No sign of points for the Niçois visitors until Soyaux’s double numerical inferiority due to two yellow cards, which allowed Alexandre Compan’s players to come back within seven points. The halftime score was 14 to 7.

Soyaux pulls away in the second half

Just like during the first 40 minutes, the locals returned better from the locker room. They played more fluidly and were more decisive in the duels, which allowed them to break through the Niçois defense too often. They also took advantage of the return of their yellow cards to score three converted tries in 20 minutes. The try by Strippoli, who has just extended his contract like 12 other of his teammates, made no difference. A final try by Soyaux concluded the match.

The locals won this lopsided duel (45-14) with the offensive bonus and secured their spot on the podium. As for Nice, they remain at the bottom of the standings but continue to gather experience. The next match is next Friday at home for the reception of Biarritz.
