Reaction from the political movement Ensemble: Enough with the security delusion

Latest News

After the Reporty project based on denunciation, which was the subject of national press articles and strongly criticized by numerous civic associations, unions – including those in the field of justice – and political forces, Estrosi thus obtained the support of the Minister of National Education Blanquer to place municipal police officers in schools.

Indeed, the security hysteria of the mayor of Nice was, however, somewhat mitigated: contrary to his initial intention, he did not receive the Minister of National Education’s approval to arm municipal police officers.

As a result, given the inconsistency of the plan, the mayor of Nice is even drawing the wrath of a union of municipal police officers worried about the inability of municipal police to retaliate!

Beyond the ridiculousness of the situation and the irresponsibility of the minister – who sees it as an “interesting experiment” – the most serious issue is the escalation by the mayor of Nice of a drift that turns into a generalized and moreover indecent security frenzy, considering the total ineffectiveness of the surveillance system on July 14, 2016.

The city of Nice and its schools have no need for this demagoguery with electoral undertones, which plays into the hands of the extreme right by establishing in Nice a security obsession and in its schools an anxiety-inducing and thus dangerous atmosphere for children.

What Nice and its schools actually need is serenity, fraternity, and the affirmation of the will to “live together,” with the necessary resources for public services to ensure both the protection of the population and the proper functioning of educational institutions, in all parts of Nice.
