Regional Elections 2015: The UMP Formalizes the Candidacy of a Christian Estrosi on the Move for Marseille

Latest News

The Nomination Commission has officially, unsurprisingly, confirmed Christian Estrosi’s candidacy to lead the UMP/UDI list in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (PACA). The UMP had announced as early as Tuesday that the mayor of Nice had been chosen by the party president, Nicolas Sarkozy.

Moreover, the UMP nomination commission named Renaud Muselier as the top candidate for the Bouches-du-Rhône department. The European deputy was opposed by deputy Valérie Boyer for this position.

@estrosi: “I thank the nomination commission for unanimously appointing me as the leader #PACA. I am happy to have @RenaudMuselier by my side” and modestly launches his first slogan which hints at what’s to come: “The recovery of the #PACA region is underway”.

Besides, the mayor of Nice is already in the electoral campaign “with @jcgaudin @RenaudMuselier & @valerieboyer13 we are commemorating the centenary of the Armenian genocide #Marseille #PACA”.

The battle will be tough and the candidacy of the mayor of Nice has been well received.

After the sarcasm from the socialist candidate Christophe Castaner, it’s Marie-Christine Arnautu’s turn to welcome him on behalf of the FN, which could be his most dangerous “enemy”, a definition given by Christian Estrosi himself who distinguishes Front National supporters from socialists who are merely opponents.

Here is an excerpt from the statement by the municipal opponent:

“As soon as the word ‘Presidency’ reaches his ears, Christian Estrosi cannot resist the sirens… It is therefore quite naturally, and feeling divinely appointed, that he is a candidate for the presidency of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region.”

This does not stop the deputy-mayor of Nice from engaging in a performance known only too well for its hypocrisy: “I will never leave my city, which is dearest to my heart.”

And finally: “The Front National takes note that Christian Estrosi now wishes to extend his passion for debt* to the entire region, and it will ensure that the PACA region’s taxpayers do not suffer such disastrous management, in line with that of the PS and Mr. Vauzelle.”
