Regional Elections in PACA: The Socialist Party Reaches Out to EELV

Latest News

The sea serpent that EELV has become, after the split of some of its national leaders, could not remain without repercussion at the local level.

In PACA, the leftist drift of this formation has gone very far: an alliance with the Mélenchonist left, even without the Communist Party which has still not expressed itself.

The stakes are high: all the local leaders and especially the voters will appreciate it at the time of voting?

Christophe Castaner, head of the PS list for the regional elections in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, seized the opportunity and extended a new “outstretched hand” to EELV from the socialist conclave in La Rochelle to ally in the first round, by proposing the top spot on the list in Bouches-du-Rhône.

“The stakes are higher than our egos: it is about keeping this region on the left and blocking the candidate of the far-right and the candidate of the extreme right,” stated Mr. Castaner.

A very generous offer, given the electoral weight of the ecologists, which could appeal to their taste buds known for being meticulous about political principles but with a strong appetite for power.

On this same occasion, Christophe Castaner also excluded any “republican front” consisting of withdrawing in favor of Christian Estrosi (LR) if the PS comes in third as the polls predict.

“The republican front is formed with republicans,” he stated. “It is not me, it is Marion Maréchal-Le Pen who declares: Christian Estrosi is more to the right than me. And our voters wouldn’t follow us. Estrosi’s discourse is so radical that our voters wouldn’t understand.”
