Retro 2024: The Events That Marked Nice and Its Inhabitants

Latest News

Between traditions and novelties, the city buzzed with its major events. Here’s a look back at a year marked by the Carnival, the Tour de France, memorable concerts, and diverse festivals.

Nice once again hosted major cultural and sporting events in 2024. The Nice Carnival, from February 17 to March 3, brought together 230,000 spectators around the theme of the “King of Pop Culture.” Parades, flower battles, and Queernaval punctuated these two festive weeks, with a remarkable conclusion: the incineration of the king on the Promenade des Anglais.

Summer also shone thanks to the Nice Jazz Festival, held from August 18 to 21. The stages at Place Masséna and the Théâtre de Verdure hosted 24 artists, from Kenny Garrett to Nas. The Jazz Off extended the experience to the whole metropolitan area, enhancing the accessibility of jazz music.

In sports, Nice had the honor of hosting the final stage of the Tour de France, a first in 35 years. The time trial between Monaco and Nice saw Tadej Pogačar triumph. It was also an occasion for Mark Cavendish to bid farewell to cycling. Another unique event, the Pétanque Explorer, organized on June 22 by McFly and Carlito, brought together fans and influencers for an unusual competition at Albert 1st Park.

Concerts and festivals for all tastes

The year was marked by various musical moments. In November, the “C’est pas classique” festival offered 25 free concerts in the Alpes-Maritimes. Umberto Tozzi, on his farewell tour, opened the event alongside the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra.

Later, in December, Calogero took over the Palais Nikaïa with his “A.M.O.U.R Tour.” His classics and recent songs delighted the public. At the Lino Ventura Theater, Barbara Pravi and Thomas De Pourquery also left a lasting impression.
