On Monday, August 14th, the LGBTQIA+ Côte d’Azur center is once again organizing the Dolly White Party at Place du Pin from 6 PM to midnight.
Last June, in the shadow of the pine tree from which the square takes its name, the new sheep “Dolly” by artist Patrick Moya was installed. Proudly standing, this sheep is meant to be the emblem of the LGBTQIA+ community. It was molded by the Nice carnival makers and painted by this Nice artist. If this sheep fully belongs at Place du Pin, it is of course in reference to the different Dolly Parties.
Thus, at the end of the 1990s, Patrick Pozuelos, who was then organizing electro nights, launched a concept. He offered free entry to anyone who brought a “clone,” a person of the same sex dressed in the same way. In connection with the first “cloned” animal, a sheep, these nights became known as the Dolly Parties. Since then, they have become an essential event of the summer nights in the city of Nice.
Furthermore, this major evening is an opportunity for the LGBTQIA+ community to raise funds. A true charitable event, the goal is to continue to financially support the actions carried out alongside the victims of discrimination. Additionally, these funds help to facilitate access to rights and the healthcare system to support the victims.
All in white for the Dolly Party
Various DJ artists will take turns energizing Place du Pin with electro tones: Dolly DJ, FredSky, Anna Crouse, Jisse, Tristan Garner, and Nicolas Dermen. Additionally, dining areas will be available thanks to the many local businesses at Place du Pin. This Dolly party will also be an opportunity to conduct HIV prevention and testing work. Stands are planned for this purpose. Finally, this free and open-entry evening imposes a daring “white” dress code!
