The City Hall of Saint-Jeannet and the PECOS (Solidarity Economy Hub) co-organized this first edition of the Eco Festival. PECOS is an association for the promotion and support of solidarity economy projects in the Alpes Maritimes region. It offers free assistance, funded by the PACA Region and Europe. “Our region is at the forefront in terms of solidarity economy,” explains Luc Chesnel, President of PECOS.
An Eco Festival for Everyone
Set to be renewed annually, these three days of eco-festivities aim to have minimal environmental impact. Electric vehicles available for free trials delighted visitors around the village. Walking through the streets, one could find dry toilets provided for public use, helping to reduce water consumption.
The Eco Festival was accessible to all budgets, a goal achieved through the pay-what-you-can communal meals. This system allowed visitors to pay for their meals according to their means. The dishes, made from organic, local, and/or sustainably farmed products, combined quality with conviviality.
Saint-Jeannet Committed to Sustainable Development
Eating organic and local is one of the priorities for the people of Saint-Jeannet, who are generally committed to sustainable development. An informal group named “Saint-Jeannet Eco Longo” has even been created. Its goal: to give a voice to those interested in sustainable development, particularly in local production in Saint-Jeannet.
“Saint-Jeannet is not new to sustainable development actions,” explains Danielle Volpini, Deputy Mayor for Environment, Sustainable Development, and Ecology at the City Hall. Indeed, the past few months have been marked by the transition of school cafeterias to organic foods and numerous actions for selective waste sorting.
This first edition of the Eco Festival, centered around the issues of planet protection, is expected to expand next year. The aim will always be to outline an alternative to the current economic system.
